Event Description
On sale Aug 31 @ 10am
Arts and Crafts signee Jason Collett, was a solo artist before he was asked to join Broken Social Scene after that band’s breakthrough album You Lost it in People.
A linchpin of the Toronto indie scene thanks to his community-building, star-studded songwriting series Radio Mondays, Collett was already a well-respected musician whose 2003 album Motor Motel Love Songs was critically acclaimed (the New York Times recommended it for “disillusioned Ryan Adams fans everywhere” and Now Magazine compared it favourably to Ron Sexsmith’s best work).
Idols of Exile, released last year in Canada and soon to be released in the U.S., is the latest showcase of Jason’s songwriting, singing and guitar-playing skills. Written during the two years he spent touring with Broken Social Scene, and recorded with producer Howie Beck, Idols of Exile mixes alt-country, acoustic folk and indie-pop, with friends from BSS, Metric (Emily Haines lends her vocals to the duet “Hangover Days”) and Stars appearing on the album. Jason has also toured with such acts as the Stills, Metric and Blue Rodeo, including memorable performances at Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park opening for Blue Rodeo.
