CBC/Radio-Canada Studio One Jazz

700 Hamilton St. Vancouver BC
CBC Studio One... Experience a great space, great sound Cecilia Bartoli, Cleo Laine, Anna Russell, Pinchas Zukerman, Katherine Robbin, Raymond Leppard, John Eliot Gardner and many other stars of the music world have all graced CBC Studio One. Authors Salman Rushdie, Margaret Atwood and Jann Arden have talked about their latest books to adoring audiences. Just about every major choir in town has experienced the magical way Studio One captures their sound. Completed in 1974, CBC Studio One, located in the depths of the CBC building on Hamilton Street in Vancouver, was designed to mimic the superb acoustics of Ryerson United Church in Vancouver. Engineers had to take into account special construction and soundproofing so that trains (now the Skytrain) that pass through a nearby tunnel wouldn't affect recording. The lower half of the walls are lined in perforated teak wood for even sound distribution. Rupert Neave, the famous British engineer who created specialized studios for The Beatles and others, designed the present 48-track recording console. CBC Studio One is the recording and rehearsal home of the CBC Radio Orchestra, the only radio orchestra in North America.
