To be part of a band with its focuses geared more towards the music itself, rather than goals of fame and fortune was a common bond shared between friends Lucas Lawrence, Chad Neufeld and Matthew Gibson. In 2003, the three brought their musical aspirations into fruition by forming The Februarys. Content with writing and playing songs in their basement in the suburbs rather than on a stage, the group began to build up material that would soon be pared down into the debut EP, entitled 'Wait'. The band took its time, recording the disc over a 6 month span, and completing their line-up with the addition of Jordan Wilson on bass. Despite having played few shows compared to most new bands, The Februarys quickly developed admiration from other established Vancouver-based musicians, such as Tegan Quin (Tegan and Sarah) and Ryan Dahle (Limblifter). One of the band's biggest supporters being Matthew Good, who recently listed The Februarys in Chart Magazine as one o f his favorite current musical acts, and then stated "I thought, 'Holy shit! This is good!'" Armed with confidence and a will to share their music with those who want to listen, The Februarys are ready to leave the basement and step into the spotlight.
