"At its core my artwork is a reflection of who I am: intense, colourful, and passionate. Each painting invites the viewer to step into a new world free from the constraints of reality, where the routine and mundane are replaced by creativity, imagination and colour. It's about bringing a spark of childhood back into the most cynical of individuals, to free ourselves from our own narrow perceptions and remind ourselves that life is whatever we choose to make it. To accomplish this, my artwork incorporates subtle surrealist and expressionist elements that invite the viewer to lapse into their own world of escapism and see their familiar surroundings in an exotic new light."
Cory was born in Brandon, Manitoba but moved to Victoria as a child and has called the city home for most of the past 27 years. After ignoring his love of art for over two decades while foolishly chasing a professional career, Cory began painting four years ago while living in Sydney, Australia. Since returning to Victoria he has focused much of his artwork on bringing life to some of Victoria's most beloved neighbourhoods through his colourful and original acrylic paintings. Now working full time as an artist from his Fernwood studio, Cory wakes up smiling just about every day with a paintbrush in one hand and a coffee in the other.
