Hamilton's Teenage Head took its name from the title of a Flaming Groovies album, which guitarist Gord Lewis had spotted on the back of Creem Magazine during his high school years. The self-proclaimed 'kings of teenage beer drinking parties,' the band maintains their reputation today as one of Canada's great live bands.
Their self-titled debut, produced by Alan Caddy (the Tornados), was released in 1979 and sold more than 27,000 copies in Canada in its first two years of release. The album has a classic sound that remains a fan favourite to this day. Their frenetic live shows, which drew capacity crowds everywhere they played, and the immediate radio exposure of two singles "Top Down" and "Picture My Face," raised eyebrows at Attic Records, who soon signed the band for future releases.
Despite the fanatical response the album has maintained since its original release, it has never been officially released on compact disc. Until now. This is the first band-sanctioned release of this classic Canadian album, containing the original 1979 mixes of the album digitally remastered by Nick Blagona at Metalworks.
TEENAGE HEAD on this recording were
Frankie Venom - vocals
Gord Lewis - guitar
Steve Marshall - bass
Nick Stipanitz - drums
The original members of Teenage Head have continued touring and recording to this day, hence a recent 12 song recording session with Marky Ramone, plus the 'Go West Tour' in May 2007. (Update) The following year, Teenage Head fans were again treated to a series of shows which touched down in Victoria, Nanaimo, Vancouver, Calgary, Innisfail, Edmonton, and Winnipeg. Through this would turn out to be the last tour for Frankie, the memories of these and previous shows will remain with fans. Sadly on October 15 2008, Frankie Venom left this world for another. May his charm and brilliance remain for others to discover. In closing, keep an eye on www.teenagehead.ca for general info about good things like the Launch of the Canadian Musician's Benevolent Fund.
