Sons of Warren Oates
The Sons of Warren Oates take their name from a 70’s B-movie icon and prolific TV actor best known for his roles in The Wild Bunch, Two Lane Black Top, and Stripes (as Drill Sergeant Hulka) and a variety of guest roles on shows as diverse as Gunsmoke and The Twilight Zone. It was his portrayal of Lyle Gorch in Sam Peckinpah’s The Wild Bunch which first caught the attention of Sons frontman and instigator Jason Dodson (The Maldives) who admired the guy who chose to die with his friends at the culmination of that film.
Sons of Warren Oates were conceived as a more traditional acoustic outlet for Dodson, a prolific songwriter. And, seeing as how he knows a thing or two about wrangling a posse of his own, he enlisted the picks, strings, vocal chords and vim of some of Ballard Avenue’s most beloved mainstays including Kevin Barrans (The Maldives), Seth Warren (The Maldives), Zoe Muth, and Kevin Murphy (The Moondoggies) among others. While Barrans and Warren complete the core of the group, an intended function of the Sons is to provide an ongoing platform for collaboration with some of the amazingly talented musicians who have shared the stage with The Maldives.
