For three alums and ten years, The Dears has been touted as the next big thing. With buzz flying around Murray Lightburn and his rotating cast of players, the Montreal-based act has been perennially on the verge, while still filling clubs, supporting major acts like Sloan and Morrissey, and ending on many year-end top 10 lists with albums like its 2000 debut End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story and 2003’s No Cities Left. However, with Gang of Losers, The Dears have fulfilled their early promise and more with a record that simply shreds the competition. Soaring vocals, gritty guitars, pop hooks, and rock energy pour out of every song, whether the dark, anthemic “Death or Life We Want You”, the melodic groove of “Ticket to Immortality”, or the impassioned, heated, “Hate Then Love”. The band’s song “Ballad of Humankindness” is featured on the recently released benefit album Help: A Day in the Life.
A group that is already legendary for its live shows, The Dears are sure to pack ’em in as the unstoppable Gang of Losers gains more and more momentum.
