Kasabian’s self-titled 2004 debut was a foot-stomping, fist-waving good time that married rave and dance culture with anthemic guitar-rock. Recalling the swagger and confidence of the Stone Roses and the electronica-indie rock fusion of Primal Scream, the disc led to opening slots for Oasis. “Club Foot”, the album’s massively popular single, was used in a trailer for the movie Serenity and on an episode of Smallville, as well as in a popular football game. The English quartet also recorded the theme for ITV’s coverage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, a cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes”.

Kasabian has more than soccer on its mind for its long-awaited second album, however. The Sony/BMG act is calling Empire, just released in the U.K., a “call to arms”; apparently, the group’s fans have answered, and the title track (and first single) shot into the U.K. top ten based on downloads and singles sales. Supporting its debut a couple years back, Kasabian impressed North American audiences. With the completion of an even better, more mature second album, the group is fast becoming one of the biggest rock bands out of the U.K. in years.
