Clever Hopes is Andrew Shaver with a rotating bunch of pals, including Eva Foote, Matthew Barber, Daniel Ledwell, and Joe Grass.

Clever Hopes was born in the early days of the pandemic after an explosive break up and subsequent chi-flipping trip to Australia, during which Andrew wrote the songs that would become the CLEVER HOPES debut album ARTEFACT, recorded in October 2020, produced and mixed by Matthew Barber. ARTEFACT released in January 2022 and and featured the singles "Made You Mad," "The Other Side," and "Shadow Waltz”, as well as the french language “Je t’ai fait tant de peine”.

The debut album caught the attention of SiriusXM's "North Americana," SiriusXM's "The Village," SiriusXM's “Racines Musicales”, Americana UK, Great Dark Wonder, Indie 88, Alan Cross' "5 Songs You Must Hear This Week", CBC Radio One, CBC Music "Afterdark,"CBC Radio 3, CBC q, Folk Roots Radio, Folkal Point + many more.

In March 2023, CLEVER HOPES returned to the studio to record its sophomore album, NEW KIND OF FAMILIAR, this time out East in Joel Plaskett’s Fang Recording in Dartmouth. Again, helmed by Matthew Barber, the album was recorded mainly live off the floor, with Eva Foote sharing the vocals with Andrew, Matthew Barber adding his voice to the mix, Afie Jurvanen and Joe Grass on various guitars, Kyle Cunjak on bass, and Joshua Van Tassel on drums and percussion. Keys and horns were overdubbed after the fact by Steve O’Connor and Kev Foran, respectively, in Port Hope ON and Dublin Ireland, again, respectively.

Singles from it, BLUE PARACHUTES and THE ONLY ONE (ft. EVA FOOTE) joined THE OTHER SIDE in rotation on SiriusXM North Americana upon release. The full album arrived in May 2024.
