Event Description

On sale Thurs, 4/13 @ 10am

Few bands in recent memory have caught on with the Strokes-like ferocity of the Arctic Monkeys. From word-of-mouth to a major label release and huge popularity in the span of just over a year, the Sheffield, England quartet has shot to the top of the pops in the U.K.

The group's early singles "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" and "When the Sun Goes Down" both went straight to #1 on the U.K. singles chart, while the Monkeys' full-length debut Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not holds the record for the largest first week sales of a debut album in the U.K. The Arctic Monkeys also won "Best New Band" at the Brit Awards, and went down in history for being the first act to win both Best New Band and Best British Band at the 2006 NME Awards.

Its overseas success has helped spread the word in North America, where the Arctic Monkeys is currently one of the hottest up-and-coming acts in North America. Drawing comparisons to Franz Ferdinand, the Jam, and the Libertines, the Monkeys play tight, edgy guitar-pop with dance floor aspirations and cheeky social commentary - England's newest hitmakers are in the forefront of another Britpop invasion.
