Event Description

Victoria Folk Music Society weekly gathering; Everyone welcome jam 6:45pm, Open Stage 7:30pm, Feature Performers Blackthorn at 9pm; Norway House, 1110 Hillside Avenue, $8 cash at the door

Blackthorn is Vancouver's longest-running Celtic group featuring a lineup of creative and talented musicians who share a love of Celtic music. With Rosie Carver (violin, vocals) Michelle Carlisle (vocals, flutes, whistles) Tim Renaud (bass, vocals, bodhran, cittern) and Michael Viens (vocals, guitars, harmonicas, bodhran) Blackthorn’s repertoire is steeped in the musical traditions of Ireland and Scotland as well as the folk music of French and English Canada.

The results of their collective musical backgrounds and experience are evidenced in the high-calibre, entertaining performances they consistently deliver to audiences of all ages. From lively jigs and reels, to songs with rousing choruses and heart-wrenching airs and ballads, Blackthorn brings the music to life with luscious harmonies and complex instrumentation.

Founded in 1989, Blackthorn has performed throughout Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest for concerts, Celtic Festivals, Folk Festivals and Highland Games and we're excited to have them join us here again tonight. Please welcome Blackthorn!
