Event Description
One of the longest running Big Bands in Greater Victoria, The Bayside Big Band takes audiences on a musical trip back in time, recreating the instrumental choruses of original jazz standards with an occasional foray into contemporary styles. The band maintains a vintage library of charts from the Big Band era and enjoys staying true to a 17- piece formula of 5 saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, bass, guitar, drums, piano and vocalist. A typical set list includes traditional swing and Latin tunes, modern ballads, even funk/rock numbers, and jazz vocals featuring Flo Pugh - who has delighted audiences for years with her spirited solo performances in the Peninsula Singers. We look forward to sharing the bill with these talented music students of Stelly’s Sr. Secondary School.
The Stelly’s Secondary School Jazz Band is made up of 20 students ranging from grade 9-12. The band plays about 5 concerts a year in and around the community. They perform a wide variety of music from traditional swing to Latin and even rock tunes. The band is excited to make their first appearance at Hermann’s alongside the Bayside Big Band.
