Original works by artist and illustrator Ross Gamble will be up in Habit Coffee - Chinatown.
Ross Gamble’s practice involves cutting up many pieces of paper to make a cast of characters. Every character is made up of individual pieces of paper, cut and glued to make up every aspect, right down to each individual button. He draws a multitude of hats, to find the right one. Swaps out a mustachioed face for a less mustachioed one. The resulting scraps from his process results in Ross’ apartment being covered in what he affectionately calls ‘confetti’.
The pieces are a stage set for a story, a still image of a larger picture about to take place. Little glimpses into dark, ghoulish bars and pastel, goofy deserts. There are, however, links to a large continuity. Little green people can be seen often peeking out from behind suitcases, the Transylvania Times is the widely read newspaper and brands such as Fancy Lad Cigarettes are the staple choice for most characters.
