Event Description
Dramatic contrasts. Powerful emotions. Sweeping lyricism and frisson-inducing harmonies. The Romantic Period of the late 18th and early 19th centuries developed partially as a response to an increasingly industrialized and isolated society, inspiring German composers to produce some of the richest and most emotionally-charged chamber music masterpieces in history.
Featuring works by three of the Titans of the era, this concert brings together long-time musical friends and founding members of Archytas Quartet, who have not performed together since before the pandemic— including two former Principals of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, cellist Ariel Barnes, and former Concertmaster Dale Barltrop, now 1st Violinist with the acclaimed Australian String Quartet, who are joined by long-time collaborative artists David Harding (viola) and Chiharu Iinuma (piano) and series curator violinist David Gillham for an afternoon of joyous and sublime music-making.
