Event Description

The Cookers Quintet featuring Bernie Senensky

An exciting straight-ahead collective of some of Canada’s finest jazz musicians, the Cookers Quintet represents the best of two worlds. Drawing largely on the straight-ahead, classic jazz tradition, the band still carves out a lineage of authentically Canadian jazz music. They formed in 2009 in Toronto out of a shared passion for swinging, traditional jazz music and, along the way, the group has developed a catalogue of original music. After signing with Do Right Music in 2015 the group has released The Cookers Quintet – Volume 1 and Volume 2 and The Cookers Quintet Meets Johnny O’Neal. With Tim Hamel trumpet, Ryan Oliver tenor saxophone, Alex Coleman bass, and Joe Poole drums. The show will feature special guest Bernie Senensky on Piano. Bernie is a legendary figure in the Canadian jazz musician who has played with a whos-who of important historical jazz figures including Chet Baker, Pharaoh Sanders, and Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers.
