“Donny McCaslin transitions from world-class jazz saxophonist to indie-art rock provocateur.” – All Music
Veteran sax player Donny McCaslin has 3 Grammy nominations and 11 albums to his credit – but it is his collaboration with David Bowie on Blackstar, Bowie’s fabled last album, that he credits with giving him a profound new approach to playing music. Primarily a jazz artist with contemporary flair, McCaslin, who performed at TD JazzFest 2017, has recently moved from an acoustic to an electric sound. With Bowie’s encouragement, McCaslin dug deeper and cast wider, ultimately embracing a more diverse approach integrating the most adventurous aspects of contemporary rock, art-pop, and electronica. His shapeshifting vision has matured effectively on Blow, McCaslin’s impressive 2018 release. He performs with Ryan Dahle vocals, Zach Danziger drums, Jason Lindner keyboards, Tim Lefebvre bass.
