The Carlines new album 'Closer To You' out on April 7th. The Carlines are a guitar driven indie-rock band from Victoria, BC. The band’s upcoming album features Heart, a punching emotional anthem and When It’s Right, another soaring melodic indie-rock track.
Heart was #46 on The Zone @ 91.3’s top 91 tracks of 2014, and they were also featured as The Zone’s Band of the Month.
The album features front man Sjoerd Meyer and both his crisp and punchy guitar work and production skills; it was self-produced alongside David Parfait over almost a year and a half in Victoria, BC. The songs feel both modern and classic and the album’s 10 tracks contain a score of sweet spots. It often happens when the pair constructs a catchy guitar and synth driven anthem and pair this with one of Meyer’s earworm melodies. They’ve found an alchemizing formula to making many of the tracks into potential hits.
Both The Carlines album and live show are decidedly upbeat, calculated and naturally quirky. When they shed the skin of their first few indie-rock hits, they relax and the stage set’s for their emotionally driven ballads, such as the album’s namesake, Closer To You, an unpretentious, real and even sweet track. And despite bearing their softer folk influences at times, the band always comes back and hits – and you are never tired at the end.
