Event Description
As winter creeps towards his rural Newfoundland community, local widower and workhorse Patrick Whelan finds himself at odds with a young man returning home from a stint in the penitentiary, determined to breathe new life into his father’s bitter feud.
One dark night, Patrick's daughter and her boyfriend get accosted and things start going from bad to worse quickly. The town's lone cop is investigating but it's clear to Patrick they aren't going to do what needs to be done. It's a small town and there's not much else to do but nurse grudges. People start drawing lines and Peter retreats into a house plagued by guilt.
Debut feature filmmaker Justin Oakey is a Newfoundland native and his atmospheric storytelling pulls from a deep appreciation of what life on The Rock really feels like. The original score by acclaimed Norwegian band Ulver (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) and solid performances from both Lawrence Barry (The Grand Seduction) and Riverhead's non-actor locals, make it a pitch-perfect dark drama with just a pinch of Fargo.
