Event Description

Please join us for another evening of art and community.

Our open mic welcomes all forms of expression. So bring prose, stand up, theatre, poetry...

Each month we feature three artists in different genres.
October's features:

BRETT DEROUIN - FICTION
Brett is a former editor for undergraduate journals This Side of West and The Warren Review, and the founding editor for the online literary journal Nudity House. Originally from Calgary, Brett is in his final year at UVic where he writes fiction, poetry, and screenplays. His film Silence, I Invade the Sky was featured last autumn in The Monthly Screen Festival.

GRAHAM ROEBUCK - STAGEPLAY
Graham holds a degree in Theatre and Writing (2011) from UVic where he focused on acting and playwriting. Acting credits include Female Transport (Langham Court Theatre), Alice (Theatre Inconnu), The Daughter of Turpentine (Hairpin Curves, Fringe Festival 2015), Lady Audley's Secret (Fringe 2014) and Oliver! (Four Seasons). Graham's compositions won first place in Canada Music Week's student competition two years running; his 2011 play Chaos and the Cosmos won five awards, including Best Play, in Vancouver Island's One Act Play Festival.

ANN-BERNICE THOMAS - SPOKEN WORD POETRY
Ann-Bernice is the current Youth Poet Laureate of Victoria. She uses her voice to rally social change, discussing such themes as immigration, identity, feminism, sexual education, mental health, and racism. Performance credits include Victoria's Ferguson Rally (2014), The Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life (2015) and the applied theatre show Waste Management (2015), which she also stage managed. In 2016 Ann-Bernice worked with police officers and master facilitators to create an interactive anti-bias show for the audiences of the ICA (Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria), the community, and police officers of the city.
