Event Description

James Bond: Licence To Thrill Victoria Fringe

Get ready for "00" Heaven as stylish secret agent, James Bond shoots for success at this summer's Victoria Fringe Theatre Festival.

The world's best known spy will be shaking and stirring audiences with the premiere of the newly adapted Casino Royale. Every legend has its beginning and this lavish tale of gambling, intrigue & double cross is 007's.

Local theatre giant, Ian Case directs an all-star cast in award-winning & internationally-produced playwright, David Elendune's stage adaptation of Ian Fleming's Casino Royale.

With Fleming's works recently out of copyright in Canada, Case leapt at the chance to bring 007 to life in a different arena. "I love the Bond films, especially Connery's," says Case. "The chance to bring another iteration of Fleming's classic spy story to life is great fun."

The whole project has come together in a matter of months from Elendune first putting pen to paper, to curtain up. He says it's been quite the whirlwind: "This is a unique opportunity. In my experience, if you're lucky, a play takes three years from concept to production. Casino Royale has taken just three months!"

Leading man, Bjornsön, Montgomery Bjornsön portrays the character which many view as the epitome of suave sophistication. "It can always be a challenge to take on such an established role as 007, but surely that is part of the excitement as well....and what better venue to take these sorts of risks than the Victoria Fringe?"

With opening night approaching, Outpost 31's production is setting its sights on achieving a winning hand that will guarantee Bond's first theatrical bow in the city will be very much, 'From Victoria with Love'.
