A solo performer who has single-handedly redefined the term one-man band, Xavier Rudd has been praised in his native Australia and throughout four North American tours.
Hailing from Torquay in that other Victoria -- in Australia -- Xavier is a multi-instrumentalist who delivers a unique and harmonious combination of lyrics, vocals, instruments and energy that is warm, powerful and emotive.
His performances are captivating and his talent unmistakable as he juggles a dizzying array of instruments, including Weissenborn slide guitars, 6 and 12 string acoustic / electric guitars, didgeridoos, stomp vox, harmonicas, Aztec drum, slit drum, djembe, shakers, slide banjo, and ankle bells.
"I designed a stand to hold my didgies" explains Rudd, "and got a welder to make it for me. It means I have hands-free access to my guitars or Aztec drum, Djembe or shakers, and I can play them at the same time as playing the didgies unless I¹m singing. I play my stomp box - a really bass-y foot drum -- with my left foot, and change pedals with my right."
Opening for Rudd will be Toronto-based band Nine Mile. Nine Mile melds rock, funk, Caribbean, and folk influences into a high-energy groove-oriented performance best described as urban acoustic pop.
