Event Description

"A MOONLIGHT SERENADE"
With
THE SWIFTSURE BIG BAND and MIRANDA SAGE

With a large dance floor, a magnificent view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca
and the sweet but dynamic sounds of the SWIFTSURE BIG BAND the scene is set
for a fine evening of dancing at the Fleet Club. Throw in a full moon and
you have a perfect setting for a wonderful evening of great dancing to the
finest tunes from the Big Band era - In The Mood, Tuxedo Junction, String
of Pearls, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Opus One and many, many more.

The Swiftsure Big Band has been providing dance music to the Greater
Victoria Area, including some of the Gulf Islands now for 14 years. They
have performed in every major venue in these areas such as Government House,
Empress Hotel, Grand Pacific, Delta Victoria Ocean Point, Aviation Museum
Hanger Dance (10 years), Butchart Gardens, The Ward Room, Victoria Yacht
Club, Herman's Jazz Club and many others.

This band of 18 talented musicians has perfected its own unique blend of big
band sounds to which is added the sultry alto voice of Miranda Sage, who is
quite possibly the finest vocalist on Vancouver Island. Under the precise
direction of Rob Bannister, himself a lifelong professional musician, the
SWIFTSURE BIG BAND, provides a solid, steady dance beat for the great
classics of Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Stan
Kenton, Count Basie , Les Browne and others. Jive, Fox Trot, Two Step,
Latin, Waltz, etc.

The dance will take place at THE FLEET CLUB, 1587 Lyall Street, at the end
of Esquimalt Road on the shores of the Strait of Juan de Fuca on May 17,
from 8:00 to 11:00 pm. Tickets are $15.00 per person but must be purchased
in advance. There will be no ticket sales at the door. You can get tickets
by calling Alan Clarke at 592 -0477 or Ken Wodlinger at 479 6108. Pre-paid
tickets can be picked up at the dance. Upon request they can be delivered.
