Event Description

On sale 6/15 @ 10am

In the ’80s, no band represented Vancouver like The Payola$. While singer Paul Hyde would go on to a successful solo career and guitarist Bob Rock would become one of the most in-demand producers in the world, helming the console for acts like Metallica, together the two formed an extraordinary team that was more than the sum of its parts. With their band The Payola$, Rock and Hyde released such groundbreaking records as In a Place Like This, No Stranger to Danger and Hammer on a Drum. Singles such as “Romance”, “Soldier”, “Never Said I Loved You” (a duet with Rough Trade’s Carol Pope) and the worldwide new wave sensation “Eyes of a Stranger” cemented The Payola$’ reputation as one of Canada’s finest bands, and a group equally at home writing socially conscious ballads, reggae-inflected punk rock tunes and catchy pop hits.

Finally, in 2007, The Payola$ are back after a twenty year hiatus (though Bob and Paul recorded an album as Rock and Hyde). Last year saw the release of a single, “Bomb” and this spring sees a new incarnation of the band touring in support of a five-song EP, Langford (Part 1). It’s about time.
