Event Description

Gord Clements, bass clarinet and saxophone, and Louise Rose, piano and vocals, salute Edward Kennedy Ellington in an evening of great jazz.

Considered among the worlds greatest composers and musicians, Duke Ellington played over 20,000 performances worldwide and wrote and recorded hundreds of musical compositions during his 50-year career. This tribute concert will feature many of his works, including Cottontail, Solitude, Sophisticated Lady, and Isfahan.

Gord Clements is an active performer, conductor, and teacher, who plays clarinet, saxophone and flute in both jazz and classical settings. His first CD, Mingus, Mancini & Us, was recorded with Louise Rose along with Rob Cheramy, guitar, Clint Ryder contrabass, and Lou Williamson, drums and vibes. Gord has recently released a second CD, Above & Below with pianist Misha Piatigorsky and bassist Neil Swainson.

A gifted pianist, vocalist, arranger, conductor, and teacher, Louise Rose studied and worked with many noted artists including Duke Ellington himself, as well as Aretha Franklin, Oscar Peterson, Ray Charles, and Leonard Bernstein. Her most recent CDs are Cool Yule and Lovingly, Louise.
