The Sports Centre is a multi-use facility, which includes an ice arena, a six-sheet curling rink, and lounge areas.
The Archie Browning Sports Center combined with the adjacent Recreation Centre
provides approximately 50,000 square feet of usable activity space. We have the capacity
and flexibility to simultaneously provide space for physical activities, conference sessions
and dining/social entertainment.
The Sports Center has and does host a number of activities year round. These include
special events of International, National and Regional scope. Some of our past events
include:
• Uniroyal World Junior Curling Championships with teams from 10 countries
• B.C. Provincial Synchronized Swimming Championship
• Pacific Cup Old-timers Hockey Tournament
• Minto Cup Canadian Junior “A” Lacrosse Championship
• Canadian Figure Skating Championships
• Skate Canada training sessions
• Curling Classic with World and Olympic Champions competing
• Team China Curling Pre Olympic training sessions
Esquimalt can accommodate events of any size from the craft exhibition of local artists to
international entertainment extravaganzas. Some of the features we have hosted are:
• David Foster Celebrity Dinner for 1,400 with celebrity guests and performers
• Military Tattoo featuring over 800 performers with bands and drill teams from all over
North America
• Western Canadian Square-dance Jamboree with over 1,400 dancers
The Sports Center is ideal for trade shows, with over 30,000 square feet of exhibition
space on two concrete floors under one roof. The Arena and curling rinks can be utilized
separately or together for one show. Food and beverage service can also be arranged with
preferred caterers within the Sports Center to enhance your show.

The Archie Browning Sports Center contains:
A regulation arena with spectator seating for 1,200 (plus 600 to 800 on the floor pending
on size of stage)
6 sheet curling surface
2 x 120 seat licensed lounges
1 boardroom, great for smaller meetings
A concession serving hot dogs, popcorn, cold and hot beverages etc.

Rental Costs for the Arena/rink:
• Child Rate: $51.50 + HST per hour
• Adult Rate: $73.00 + HST per hour
• Commercial Rate: $258.25 + HST per hour
Note: 15% discount if booking the facility more than two days
We only charge for a maximum of a 12 hour rental
Curling Rink:

Availability (dry floor): First week of April to the middle of September

Rental costs for the Curling Rink:
• Child Rate: $31.75 + HST per hour
• Adult Rate: $63.50 + HST per hour
• Commercial Rate: $111.25 + HST per hour
Note: 15% discount if booking the facility more than two days
We only charge for a maximum of a 12 hour rental
Lounges:
Hours of operation: 11am to 1:00am
Capacity: 120 with tables and chairs
Rental costs for lounges:
• Child Rate (room only/no bar): $17.25 + HST per hour
• Adult Rate: $34.25 + HST per hour
• Commercial Rate: $60.00 + HST per hour
Note: Commercial rate is defined as an event that generates revenue for itself.
