Opened in 1851 and once owned by Canada’s first prime minister, John A. Macdonald, the Royal Tavern is part of Kingston's Lower Princess Street Heritage Area. The historical Royal Tavern reopened in 2022 after three years, with a modern twist.

The Royal Tavern 2.0 features a food menu of bar and pub favourites, and regularly hosts live music, open jams and karaoke.
