About

Pacific Frontal System

Fusing the physical and the metaphysical, the scientific with archaic, earth moving EQ and the time warping effects that reduce hours to minutes and make seconds stretch eternal, dub is at the same time the most basic yet the most advanced music form to ever shake bass bins world wide. When you can feel it in your chest, taking over your body and soul, that is when you understand the power of dub. From punk roots to roots riddims Pacific Frontal System are set to bring this sound down all around.

Bassist Chris Buck, the Mad Subwoofer, is formally of Victoria powerhouse prog-punk-jazz trio Shovlhed, as well as the hip hop quintet DIGG. Drummer Dan Beer is formally of the art-funk quartet Sun Dog Sun and the genre-busting artistic frenzy of Victorias Mexican Power Authority. Bringing it all together is former UViC music alumni Ian Avery who in addition to his melodic forays with his trumpet, keys, melodica (a dub essential,) slide whistle and percussion adds his own blend of textures, applications and effects via the digital machinations of his sound board. Together this trio of alchemists construct a wide sonic soundscape.

Veteran scene-sters Pacific Frontal System draw their influences from varied sources, some of which include Bill Laswells Axiom label, Adrian Sherwoods ON-U sound label featuring such artists as Scratch Perry, and Dub Syndicate, King Tubby and Prince Jammy, Jah Wobble and the Twilight Circus dub sound system.

P.F.S. have an average set of over three hours and require minimal P.A. support, although the help of an enthusiastic sound person familiar with the soundboard workings of the dub style is always appreciated and encouraged. Our live set is a multi-media experience often incorporating the live projection art of Kari Fisher with her striking visual presentations and the sonic manipulations of Victorias Fried Egghead.
