"As an artist a painting must inspire the senses, deepen the mystery and pull on my emotions. I developed a love of compositions that synthesize beautiful light and energy. We live in complex and rapidly changing times. I am drawn to the inspiriting essence of nature — its’ rhythms or enormity, and the strengthening it evokes in us. My landscapes are poems of nature and unfold our search for comfort and connection." - Nancyanne Cowell
...expressions of light
From an early age, Nancyanne Cowell began painting our relationship with nature in the vigorous Canadian landscape. An Award of Distinction artist, she is well regarded for her powerful and luminous abstracted landscapes in oil-mixed media. A dynamic palette of masterful light, Cowell's paintings stay with you and reveal themselves over time. Through introspection, she poetically paints through thoughts, memories and sublime experiences with nature. Combining timeless and progressive techniques, Cowell skillfully paints the modern landscape through invigorating brushwork, textures and mystical transitions.
Selected by Canada’s Research Chair for sustainable communities (and recipient of the Canada Council Arts Molson Prize), a complete series of Nancyanne Cowell's paintings is academically published. She made a unique and revolutionary body of work celebrating art, nature and the future of humanity; exhibited by the Bateman Gallery of Nature.
