Monica Lee was running in the rain when it all fell apart. So she sang until the pain told the story. Caffeine shaking and cold she picks up the guitar she got a lifetime ago on her 16th birthday and the ghost of Johnny Cash comforts her to song. Sometimes Carole King whispers major 7th chords in her ear and her upright grand fills the jerry can. Other days she has to pull the tears out of her 62 year-old viola to move on. The songs heal her.
Talking about her band, Nathan Peekay of 4thrcrdMag said, “..the sound of life! ... the sound of new landscapes being explored and musicians finding that special place where birth happens.” After a listen while drinking his morning coffee, John Mann of Spirit of the West compared her to Joni Mitchell for her use of imagery and poetry in her lyrics. With a gypsy heart her purpose is unwavering, sing about it, bring these feelings to life, whatever that sounds like…just do it! With a family to feed, dinner is burning while Monica bangs out another song.
Ready to fire up any stage, the Monica Lee Band is in it’s 15th year.
