About

Mauricio Montecinos

Instruments: Guitar, Vocals details

Emerging Latino-Canadian artist from Kingston

Mauricio—folk-classical and pop flamenco guitarist extraordinaire—combines Latin songwriting, composing, and arranging with an infectious blend of World Fusion rhythms. Mauricio's songs are a reflection of his roots in Chile and his life's' journey to share his love, and passion for music, this world, and it's people. His performances are an invitation to celebrate this shared journey through music and dance!

About Mauricio Montecinos

Mauricio was born in Chile and at the age of seven, surrounded by folk singers in his family, friends and also gypsies tenting in his "barrio" (neighborhood) began to play guitar dedicating his first years to singing and playing Latin folk music, love songs and gypsy "rumbas". With the support of music teachers and professional musicians he obtained his grade eight in classical and performance guitar. In addition, he was involved singing and playing in university choirs, orchestras, flamenco dance companies, folk, pop and rock 'n roll bands in Chile and Argentina.

Having moved to Canada in 1993, Mauricio is now sharing his music with Canadian audiences at festivals, concerts venues, house concerts, workshops, benefit concerts and social events for private corporations. His concerts have been broadcast throughout Northern Ontario with the support of MCTV, the BOX TV, CKLU, CBC and CBON radio stations and to the west of Canada by CBS Network. The STAR TV national network produced a 1.5 minute news special on the Album "Baila Conmigo", and Harbour Front Debut Concert for July 2001. In 2017, Mauricio was featured in the dramatic comedy film, Live in Kingston. In addition to his musical career, Mauricio has a Bachelor and Honours Degree in Education with specialization in Learning Disorders, Music Therapy and Educational Research.

Mauricio's music

Mauricio, accompanied by a quartet or by "La Banda Multifusion", offers audiences an exciting "intercultural fusion" of Latin American and World Beat music. His repertoire combines original songs from his new album "Baila Conmigo" with Folk Latin and gypsy songs, classical and flamenco gypsy guitar, instrumentals and social commentary songs of the New Trova (a latin folk movement of the 70’s and 80’s that reflects the struggle for peace in Latin America and the World). His LP, Baila Conmigo, is a reflection of the social-musical soul of his Latin culture and his departure to Canada. His voice, energetic rhythms and his unique latin-gypsy guitar style are embraced with western instruments and contemporary arrangements.
