About

Don't Mess With The Pony

since circa 2002
Don't Mess With The Pony is a dynamic, original and jazz inspired indie-fusion trio from Melbourne. Featuring two songwriters and lead singers, this eclectic outfit compose all their material with a focus on lush and captivating harmonies that support and enhance their deep rhythmic grooves.

Don't Mess With The Pony are: Suzanne Bass (songwriting/bass/vocals), Megan Bernard (songwriting/guitar/vocals) and Cat Leahy (drums/percussion/vocals). Since forming the band in 2002 during their music studies, the girls have been in and out of the studio and have recorded three EP's including the first release Colour of Mind and the newly released The Four Secrets.

Don't Mess With The Pony have toured extensively throughout Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia. In 2006 the trio played at the Queenscliff Music Festival appearing alongside acts like Blue King Brown and The Audreys, which made for a career highlight.

With a diverse range of influences including John Mayer, Me' Shell N'degeocello, Led Zeppelin, Joni Mitchell and Dave Matthews Band, the trio has incorporated their extraordinary individual talents to write songs that not only appeal to the commercial radio listener, but also have the depth to engage critics and fellow musicians alike. DMWTP are so musically versatile that you can expect anything from rockin' guitar solos to smooth sensual vocal melodies, always delivered with vibrant percussive rhythms and solid bass lines. It is entrancing to watch these talented musicians engage in on-stage jam sessions; a crowd-pleasing feature of each performance. DMWTP songs have proven to be favourites on the Oz Music Soundcheck website and have also been played on ABC Radio National, RRR, Joy FM and Coastal FM. They have also made it to the top 100 of the 2006 Music Oz Awards with their song Get Out Of Your Head.

In January 2007 the trio conducted a two-week tour of Northern Victoria, NSW and Adelaide promoting their latest EP The Four Secrets. They gathered strong support for their music and lifted the spirits of many fire-affected communities. In July 2007, DMWTP will embark on their first international tour to Canada. They will be performing at festivals and venues throughout British Columbia, and for part of the tour will be supporting the vivacious Emaline Delapaix, a singer/songwriter whose clever lyrics and musical versatility, securing a strong fan-base across North America and Europe.
