"Who the Hell is Circle The Wagons?" you may ask. You may be sorry you did...
They're a trio of small town hicks channelling fast, heavy, old-fashioned 3-chord punk rock through pagan/druidic ancestral RNA.
CTW are as dark, heavy and oppressive as a B.C. Liberal human-services budget, yet as tortured, spontaneous and manic as Richard Pryor's flaming freebase-sprint. Imagine Motorhead using High On Fire's equipment after a three-day amphetamine bender while on tour with Black Flag.
The Players:
Paddy Duddy - Bass, Lead Vocals
Paddy "Beauty School Dropout" Duddy is a potato-scarfin', Guinness swillin', Hair obsessing, fenian lad born in Derry, Northern Ireland and later weaned on punk and pints in the redneck mecca of Calgary, Alberta. After years sitting behind the drums with Vancouver punk legends Rusty Nails (no relation to Ron Hawkins) and a stint on pennywhistle with a failed reggae-meets-Irish-pub-songs project (Eire Irie), Paddy decided to evolve into a hotshot lead guitar player. Quickly demoted, he now hangs his hat near the (heavily-distorted) bass gear.
Mike Maggot - Guitar, Vocals
Mike "Maggot" Maggot is a toffee-nosed, hair-farmin' British turd transplanted to the Dominion when he was wee mewlin' pukin' bairn. After too many years in a dark basement with nothing but Black Sabbath, Sex Pistols and ZZ Top albums Mike injured eardrums around the Lower Mainland in Eugene's Axe. Following the Eugene's Axe years, Mike co-founded the Fruits of Iniquity as Maggoty Mango with drummer Pernicious Persimmon and bassist Heinous Huckleberry (see pictures for a shot of Maggot reuniting with his old mates). Mike eventually found this band to be too limiting ("We were, after all, just a jam band.") and joined Ymir-based tribute-transcenders BC/DC with whom, as Bearded Angus, Mike remains to this day. Maggot claims BC/DC is a "side project" of his, though other BC/DC members dispute this.
Jean Cretin - Drums
Jean "PM" Cretin is a cuddly, small-town Barbie collector obsessed with federal politics and satanic death metal. Considered to be the philosophical member of CTW, Jean was quoted once as saying "Yer nut da boss of me." The most recent addition to the band, Jean was discovered at a shopping mall, boy band talent contest where he his scores ranged from a 25 for originality and a 35 for lipsync. Fortunatly for CTW, Jean didn't make the cut for the now famous "N' Heat". Jean has been known to play 20-minute drum solos with a pair of branding irons.
