Provincial Champion is an alternative rock/pop band from Vancouver, B.C., that draws inspiration from the best of punk and alternative artists from the 80’s and early 90’s. Listening to Provincial Champion is like feeling you are one of the cool kids, but in a way that doesn’t leave you feeling false, or inauthentic. This is music for people who feel and want to feel everything. As intense a ride as that can be, this is for everybody. Danceable beats and rhythms meet guitar and synth awash in reverbs and modulation. The emotional delivery of vulnerable thoughts and lyrics evoke imagery of a soul tortured, yet in love with each experience. Love songs for the eternally heartsick optimist, searching for answers on a dance floor amidst smoke machines and strobe lights…
The band was formed in 2017 when Cameron Hartl and Tariq Khan got to talking about classic Thatcher-era alternative bands…
“I miss this, I long for that… “
Provincial Champion was born. These two veterans of music scenes from Montreal to the U.K. (Tariq) and Vancouver to France (Cameron), have turned in a sonically beautiful, alternative rock band that feels old and new at once. Real, vulnerable, and urgent.
