TRIO ELETRICO: Armandinho, Dodo & Osmar
Armandinho Macedo began playing atop his father's "Trio Elétrico de Dodô e Osmar" when he was just a boy. The original electric carnaval band truck has long since added his name, and has grown over the years into a mammoth semi with an elaborate stage on top, ringed by booming speakers. Let me assure you, as one who has joined the throng in Salvador da Bahia's Praça Castro Alves to hear their annual all-night performances, this music will definitely make your bones vibrate.
Armandinho has phenomenal energy, and is famously faster than Jimi Hendrix on his guitarra Baiana (an electric cavaquinho, or Brasilian mandolin), yet he can also play with surprising grace, as on his recent duets of chôro tunes with acoustic guitarist Yamandú Costa. This tour celebrates the 60th year of the Trio Elétrico that his father Osmar Macedo founded, and will make Thursday, February 25th a memorable night for Brasilian music at Neumos, on Seattle's Capitol Hill. Any Northwest musician who loves virtuoso mandolin playing should check out this world-class performer live. You'll be smiling for days...
