ART IN THE BARN: The Transformation of Art in the Barn Gallery
Nestled off Interurban Road, what was once a horse barn has undergone a remarkable transformation into the Art in the Barn Gallery, a vibrant space where creativity flourishes. The gallery, spearheaded by husband-and-wife duo Gabriel Taschereau and Jacqui Austin, serves as both a showcase and workspace for their artistic passions.
Gabriel, a seasoned photographer, and Jacqui, a lifelong painter, saw the potential in the empty barn after their horses were gone in 2016. They spent six months renovating the space, turning it into a gallery that now features their works alongside those of guest artists. Gabriel, who also operates a portrait studio within the gallery, describes the transformation as a way to "showcase their love for art."
Jacqui, working from her studio up the hill, brings the gallery to life with her large nature-based paintings. Currently, the gallery also features abstract works by guest artist Gwendolyn O’Connor, whose unique style captivated Jacqui from the moment she saw it.
Though off the beaten path, Art in the Barn has become a cherished spot for the local community, reflecting the couple’s dedication to art. As Gabriel puts it, the gallery is "just about the art," a place where their passion continues to grow.
