Based in a small town in southwest England, this hard-throbbing quartet of R&B-inspired indie rockers have left ears bleeding and throats raw from shouting, the standard legacy of any show from their European and North American tours. The Heavy ripped through the Canadian festival circuit last year, and have come back for more, this time with a hard driving horn section. It seems that their many fans can’t get enough of the band’s uncompromising commitment to guitar-heavy hiphop soul. Their debut album, Great Vengeance and Furious Fire, was amazing; the follow-up, The House That Dirt Built, is equally outrageous. Add in their incendiary live shows, and it’s no wonder they have been getting heaps of praise from Rolling Stone and Spin Magazine and even a performance on David Letterman. The Heavy is Kelvin Swaby vocals and Dan Taylor guitar, Chris Ellul drums and Spencer Page bass. These guys rocked the festival last year and we couldn’t wait to get them back. “The Heavy add cool lo-fi samples and face melting guitar solos to create a one-of-a-kind groove that’s heavy, dirty and funky.” – Minnesota Public Radio
