Few other West Coast bands have become popular both critically and with audiences as swiftly as the Be Good Tanyas. With their exquisite harmonies, heart-in-throat melodies and lyrics, and rootsy folk, country and bluegrass instrumental touches, the trio of Frazey Ford, Trish Klein and Samantha Parton have quietly and unassumingly charmed the music world. The Vancouver-based group’s debut Blue Horse was a sleeper hit that ended up on many critics’ top ten lists and brought the band international attention. The Be Good Tanyas soon found themselves touring with major artists, playing festivals, and headlining sold-out shows. The U.K. especially developed a love for the band, and The Tanyas remain a hot ticket overseas.
Chinatown, the group’s follow-up, further enhanced their reputation as musicians, songwriters, singers, and fearless interpreters of other people’s material, both traditional and contemporary. This tradition continues with Hello Love, the group’s latest, which includes The Be Good Tanyas’ head-turning take on Prince’s classic pop hit “When Doves Cry”, as well as a cover of Neil Young’s “For the Turnstiles”, and several of their own stunning songs.
