A legendary songwriter who continues to challenge both himself and his audience, Paul Simon is an enduring musical institution who has written some of the best songs of the last four decades. There are few people who don’t know the many classics he wrote and recorded with Simon and Garfunkel—songs like “The Sound of Silence”, “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, and “Mrs. Robinson”.
In his career as a solo artist, Simon has been not only prolific and consistently excellent, releasing first rate albums like Still Crazy After All These Years and Hearts and Bones, but also pioneering, as he’s transformed himself and the pop music scene with his smash, world music-influenced album Graceland.
Surprise, his latest, is another daring adventure, this one co-produced with soundscape artisan Brian Eno. The disc takes the listener to new sonic territory while remaining firmly grounded not only in Simon’s masterful craftsmanship, but also his insights into the workings of the human heart.
