Event Description

Jeffrey Allport
Vancouver-based percussionist Jeffrey Allport approaches the physical nature of his chosen instrument through a variety of preparations and implements to liberate a unique palette of sounds. Respecting each carefully extracted tone, thump and scrape in addition to the silence from which they are borne, his exploratory improvisations inhabit minute sound worlds; eschewing the grand gesture. In addition to solo work, Allport has enjoyed a lengthy collaboration with Tim Olive releasing three CD’s since 1998. They have toured in Canada, the United States, Japan and Western Europe. Frequently participating in once-only groupings has led him to performing and recording with a wide variety of improvisers. Past collaborators have included saxophonist John Butcher, trumpeters Axel Dörner and Greg Kelley, prepared-guitar maverick Keith Rowe, as well as harpist Rhodri Davies.

Tetuzi Akiyama
Born in 1964 in Tokyo. Started playing guitar when 13 years old. After some influences from Folk, Rock and Blues, started playing Improvisation in 1981. Founded three piece improv band "Madhar" in 1987.Besides this, has been members of many other unitslike "Mongoose", "Bject", "Nijiumu" "Amephone", "Hikyo String Quartet" and recently "Satanic Abandoned Rock'n'Roll Society".
After releasing the first solo album "Relator"(slub music, 2001), using an acoustic guitar with a mixture feeling of country blues and free improv, playing solo more than ever, in styles of both acoustic and electric guitars, turntable without records, etc. Using a prepared resonator guitar with a Samurai sword, released the second solo album "Resophonie"(a bruit secret, 2002) which can be described as sonic sculpture only by the guitar.
In 2003, third solo "Don't Forget to Boogie!" (idea records) was released, playing in minimal one chord Boogie/Rock/Blues guitar style with vintage electric guitar tone.

Amy Horvey
Trumpeter Amy Horvey has worked internationally with a wide range of performance projects specializing in cutting-edge contemporary music. Coming from a classical background, Horvey's uniquely intimate style eschews the machismo of the traditional trumpet as she investigates the instrument's sonic architecture.
