Giuseppe Pietraroia conducts the UVic Chorus and Orchestra in John Rutter's Magnificat. This vibrant and joyful work — inspired by the traditional Latin text of the Virgin Mary’s song of praise — weaves together influences of Latin American rhythms, medieval chant, and Rutter’s characteristic lush harmonies.
The program also features Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 “Scottish,” a richly evocative work that captures the essence of Scotland’s rugged landscapes and historical spirit. Adding to the evening’s excitement is the premiere of a new composition by UVic student, Koshi Thompson, conducted by graduate student Arturo García Cuéllar, showcasing the innovative talent emerging from our university.
