“Imagine an artist with Jaco Pastorious’s virtuosity, George Benson’s vocal fluidity, Joao Gilberto’s sense of song and harmony, all mixed up with African culture. We bring you Richard Bona!” — Los Angeles Times
Smithers-based Latin pop superstar Alex Cuba returns to Victoria for a solo performance with more ballads and absolute bangers in his brand-new ninth album, El Swing Que Yo Tengo (2023). This extraordinary GRAMMY-winning artist effortlessly mixes funk, soul, and pan-Latin textures, and brings together contagious melodies, popsoul hooks, and rock chords. Cuba has collaborated with Sheryl Crow, Jason Mraz, Ron Sexsmith and Nelly Furtado. He has accumulated over 20 awards and nominations including four Latin GRAMMYS, two JUNO Awards, one 2022 JUNO nomination, a 2022 GRAMMY Award for his album Mendo, and three GRAMMY nominations. Cuba played in Victoria at the 2022 Harbour ‘n Roots Festival. If you missed him last time or want to revisit that experience, now is your chance!
GRAMMY-winning Cameroon-born musician Richard Bona remains one of the most accomplished international bass players, composers, and multi-instrumentalists. The way he connects with his audience has turned him into a staple name in world, jazz, and Afropop music. Bona has collaborated with the greatest: Herbie Hancock, Harry Belafonte, Quincy Jones, Chick Corea, Cesária Évora, Sting, Mike Stern, Pat Metheny, Stevie Wonder, Bobby McFerrin, Chucho Valdés, George Benson, and many more. A teacher of Jazz Improvisation at NYU, he is constantly mentoring young talents throughout the world. He’s also a TED speaker and ambassador for various non-profit projects. As he continues to tour the world and explore new musical directions, Bona continues to redefine his sound. Catch Richard Bona and his Asante Trio live for TD JazzFest 2025!
