Event Description
V.Vecker (b. Keith Wecker, 1983) is a composer, improvisor, and multi-instrumentalist using technology to explore his interest in the timbral and temporal possibilities that exist within electronic-based music. Utilizing sound design techniques to focus on the in-between sounds produced via a dense layering process, V.Vecker is able to create dense and luxurious sonic textures that evoke a meditative sonic environment for the listener to immerse themselves in. His personal approach to sound creation is highlighted by the diversity of the acts he has shared the stage with (Tim Hecker, Clark, Sumac, Thundercat, Wolf Eyes, Six Organs of Admittance, Goblin, Lori Goldston and Sun Araw) as well as participating in projects of Anthony Braxton and Glenn Branca. Keith has had his music featured across North America, including multiple appearances at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, New Forms Festival, VU Symposium and Improvisors Summit PDX.

Soft time is a Victoria-based ensemble of musicians and composers who enjoy making things together. They host concerts that explore an ecology of composed works in the midst of improvisation, forming relationships between sounds and friendship. For this event, Soft Time is Kristy Farkas, Cathy Fern Lewis and Mitch Renaud. Soft: blurred, malleable, comfortable, easy, rounded, furry.
Catherine Fern Lewis, a renowned Canadian performer, sound and voice artist, has championed new music since the 80s. She’s premiered over 150 works by prominent composers, often crafted for her, and her personal creative explorations often blend improvisation, movement, sound, film, and installation. Her site-specific, interdisciplinary performances have been featured in galleries and festivals across Canada and Europe.
Kristy Farkas is a sound and visual artist based in Victoria, Canada, on lək̓wəŋən territory. As a composer and improvisor, her sound projects often explore delicate sounds and textures, vulnerability, and our relationship with our environment and nature. Kristy’s portfolio spans diverse settings, from concert halls and galleries to intimate cafes, lush gardens, and quiet forests, crafting immersive experiences for audiences in varied listening spaces.
Mitch Renaud is a sound artist, composer, and curator whose practice moves between performing live with electronics and discrete composition. His work explores the materiality of relation through (co-)composition, field recording, studio processing, and feedback systems. Mitch performs solo and has ongoing collaborations with artists Dave Riedstra, Emilie LeBel, and Katelyn Clark.
