The UVic Wind Symphony presents an exciting concert of new and original works that celebrate emerging and diverse music makers from UVic and beyond. The program features commissioned premieres by UVic student composer Winfred Man, alumnae Naomi Sehn and Mia Zhao, as well as works by Katahj Copley (Kaleidoscope Eyes), Reena Esmail (Chamak(चमक)), and Kevin Day (Dancing Fire).
Conducted by Steven Capaldo, the concert also explores the idea that ‘everything is connected to everything else’ in the premiere of a new Haida work “gina 'waa dluxan gud ad kwaagid” written by local teacher and UVic alumna Alana-Joy Parrish and Natasha Parrish. Instrumental and vocal students from Mt. Douglas, Spectrum, and Esquimalt Secondary Schools will join the UVic Wind Symphony on stage for this performance.
