Event Description

Pony Gold (Victoria,BC)

West Coast Alt Country Band Pony Gold weave timeless, and tender-hearted songs that resonate with the soul, led by singer-songwriter Theresa Bromley, and guitar player Matt Bromley. With a voice that conducts emotion like copper wire conducts electricity, Theresa’s songs are steeped in the complexities of an adverse small-town upbringing and navigating the murky waters of addiction. From the shadows of personal struggle emerges an artistic expression that transcends mere storytelling, offering a poignant reflection on the human condition. Complimenting her heartfelt songs is Matt Bromley, a bottleneck slide guitar player, influenced by the vintage sounds of the 70s infusing soul and grit into their music. Bringing together their diverse backgrounds, Pony Gold blends elements of country, soul, blues, and folk to create a sound that is uniquely their own.

Duke & Goldie (Vancouver, BC)

Walking the line between warm folk storytelling and an upbeat mystical country twang are Vancouver-based duo Duke & Goldie. The musical partnership of Jena Gogo and Eric Duquette each longtime members of roots rock band Blue Sky Miners, has produced an exciting new sound said to “revive the charm of the 60’s and 70’s Laurel Canyon music scene”. Their debut self-titled EP, released May 12th, 2023 has been met with glowing reviews and called “A masterpiece that skilfully balances folk and country elements while showcasing the duo’s exceptional vocal abilities” by Canadian Beats. On stage the pair weave their cascading vocal harmonies over acoustic guitar-laden arrangements to tell stories that roam from rocky mountain highs to mysterious remote deserts, captivating audiences wherever they go.

Just A Season (Vancouver, BC)

Scott Smith has helped make a lot of other people sound great over the years. From the heartland roots-rock of Barney Bentall and the arena sized country of Aaron Pritchett to a slew of insurgent Vancouver club champs like Rich Hope, Ben Arsenault and Marin Patenaude, Smith has been everybody’s ringer, flipping between guitar and pedal steel while casually raising the bar with lightning technique and unfailing good taste. With his band Just A Season, Scott Smith switches from sideman to frontman, enlisting some of his favourite players to put the right groove on a collection of songs that recall an era when folk, rock, and country met in a sun-baked embrace.
