Event Description

Beyond the Glass is a two-day festival celebrating the diverse talents of Eastern Ontario’s women artists, including visual artists, dancers, actors, comedians, and musicians. Held in multiple downtown Brockville venues, the festival features performances, galleries, and exhibitions, headlined by acclaimed artist Amanda Rheaume.

Our vision is to spotlight regional talent while boosting tourism and fostering cultural and economic growth.

The Details:
Beyond the Glass: Eastern Ontario Women’s Arts Festival, a grand celebration of the vibrant talents and creativity of women in the arts. Set to take place on July 26 and 27, 2024 at multiple venues in downtown Brockville, including Arts Hub Brockville, St Lawrence Anglican church, St Paul Anglican Church, Engine House Yoga Studio, Sweet Ofelia Cafe and Market, Medium Effort Fine Art Supplies, and more. This extraordinary event is poised to captivate and inspire attendees from near and far.

The festival is set to showcase an array of artistic expressions, including two pop-up galleries, three performance spaces, a dance exhibition, offering a platform to over a multitude of Eastern Ontario’s finest female visual artists, dancers, thespians, performers, comedians, musicians, and bands. Moreover, we are honoured to announce that the festival’s headliner will be the esteemed two-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner, Folk Music Ontario Award winner, International Folk Music Award winner, and Juno-nominated artist, Amanda Rheaume.

At the heart of our vision lies a commitment to spotlighting the immense talent of Eastern Ontario’s women in the arts, while simultaneously catalyzing a diverse influx of tourism to downtown Brockville and its surrounding areas.

It is our fervent hope that this event will not only be a celebration of artistic excellence but also a catalyst for economic and cultural growth within the region.

KAY FRANCISS
Kay has a full repertoire of original songs that touch the heart. As a performer, she also shares laughter, tears, and awareness to personal growth, through her music.

ALANNA J. BROWN
Alanna is a singer/songwriter/arranger originally from Toronto. She moved to Banff National Park for a decade where she worked as a full-time performing musician, performing regularly for weddings, hotels, restaurants, festivals, while touring her music around Western Canada. In January 2023 she moved to Ottawa, Ontario with her growing family to continue working as a professional musician, but is available to travel to the Rocky Mountains for weddings and special events.
Alanna’s late teens and early twenties were spent touring around Canada performing at festivals and music venues in multiple indie-rock and folk groups. She followed her dream of becoming a professional musician to Humber College where she studied under some of the world’s most accomplished jazz musicians and received her Honours Bachelor of Music. In her fourth year she focused on recording her first professional EP of original music, “Tuesday’s Coming” accompanied by a string quintet. A few years later Alanna was back in the studio with 3-time Juno Award winning producer Jeff Wolpert recording her first full-length original album, “Accelerate” featuring astounding musicians like Hugh Marsh, Jonathan Goldsmith and the Gryphon Trio.
In May 2020 she released a self-produced original album, “Said I Was Shy” recorded in Banff National Park, where she’s lived for the past 8 years. You can listen to all of her original music on Spotify, Apple Music, Itunes and any other online streaming website.
Since moving to Ottawa Alanna has focused on performing luxury weddings, but she can be found singing regular gigs at some of the valley’s most prestigious music venues.
When Alanna isn’t performing you can find her hiking, skiing, cycling and exploring with her husband Drew (photographer), three-year-old son River and baby Charles.

SUE PROSSER WITH LEIGH TURCOTTE
Hailing from Eastern Ontario, Sue and Leigh’s collective performing experiences originate from years of entertaining at coffeehouses, bars, festivals, touring and the bar circuit.
With her distinctive voice, rhythm, and iconic music, they enchant their audience, delivering tunes with passion and soul.

HOLLY GILLIS COX
Holly Gillis Cox is a vocalist in the Ottawa area. Born and raised in Margaree Forks, Cape Breton, NS., she is passionate about singing and creating new music.
She enjoys singing with other talented musicians and has been influenced by many Celtic, Folk, Country, Rock and Blues artists.

VICTOR COMPLEX
Victor Complex is the angsty, punky, grungey brain child of Vic, an Ottawa vocalist and instrumentalist with backgrounds in multiple genres and performance styles. Inspired by a wide range of genres, Victor Complex uses the sonic background to engage you in stories about her life, lessons she’s learned, and the sometimes times uncomfortable feelings that some along with that living and learning.
From punchy riffs to gut-punching lyrics, there’s a hit for everyone who listens. We’re here to fuel your v̶i̶c̶t̶i̶m̶ victor complex.

THE PETRAS
The Petras is a hot all-female rock band from Kingston, Ontario. The dream child of singer Brielle LeBlanc, frontwoman of the popular Kingston rock band Luscious, The Petras is inspired by iconic 70s punk band, The Runaways, and modern indie rock band, The Beaches.
The Petras is about tapping into a unique female energy in our original songs and performances. With Rowan “Rogue” Picard on lead guitar, Zoe Evans on bass and Madisen Benoit on drums, The Petras serves up a powerful mix of captivating vocals, melodic solos, and driving beats.
Currently recording with Juno award winner and founding member of Glass Tiger, Michael Hanson, The Petras promises to be a band to watch!
