Event Description

After selling out 2023 concerts in Vancouver and Victoria, DakhaBrakha is now touring its spectacular musical-visual performance back to B.C. The world-music quartet from Kyiv, Ukraine brings a powerful message of resistance and cultural pride to the Massey Theatre in New Westminster on March 29, and the University Farquhar Auditorium in Victoria on March 30. The program for this tour includes the hits of "DakhaBrakha" from six albums, as well as new tracks written during the current Ukraine-Russia war.

“With their otherworldly singing and self-described ethno-chaos sounds, this Ukrainian quartet mesmerized for a magical 90 minutes, while adding messages of peace and solidarity. A truly remarkable experience.” — Star Tribune

Founded in 2004 at Kyiv’s Dakh Theatre, Dakhabrakha’s ethno-chaos band creates a bright, unique, and unforgettable musical landscape. DakhaBrakha is new Ukraine, young nation-making, international, both pre-colonial and post-Soviet, working within a global network of art and music.

Accompanied by Indian, Arabic, African, and Ukrainian traditional instrumentation, the quartet produces an astonishingly powerful and uncompromising vocal range. With influences from Ukranian folk, world sounds, and theatre, the ensemble’s musical spectrum is at first intimate then riotous, plumbing the depths of contemporary roots and rhythms.

Their musical performance is augmented by a powerful video montage featuring animations from different artists projected behind them on stage: bright and bold, some celebratory, some curious, others dark, with the recurring message, “Ukraine will Win”. Don’t miss this uniquely creative and culturally significant performance!
