Hailing from a century-long musical dynasty in Mexico, Faustino Díaz was the first Latin American trombonist to win the Jeju International Trombone Competition in 2013. Díaz has performed and held esteemed positions globally and is one of the greatest proponents of Latin music. Currently Principal Conductor of the Campeche Symphony Orchestra, he serves as trombonist of the acclaimed Meridian Arts Ensemble of the USA, is Professor of Trombone at the Conservatory of Music of the State of Mexico and is an Exclusive Artist of the Japanese firm Yamaha.
Hear works by Axel Jørgensen, Jean-Michel Defaye, Enrique Crespo, Alexander Guilmant, Arthur Pryor, and Bernardo Bautista Monterde & Antonio Ortiz Calero. Diaz will be joined by students from the UVic School of Music brass studio and pianist Jany Lu.
