Event Description

Victoria Folk Music Society weekly gathering; Everyone welcome jam 6:45pm,  Open Stage 7:30pm, Feature Performers the Awakeneers at 9pm; Norway House, 1110 Hillside Avenue, $8 cash at the door

A nomadic tribe of multi-instrumentalist songwriters (most of whom are siblings) the Awakeneers offer a genre-bending blend of acoustic positivity that orbits elliptically around the idea of folk music. Segueing from a foot-stomping fiddle tune to a hip-hop guide to mindfulness or a meditative love song to Mother Earth, their music centres around honest vocals with rich harmonies and diverse acoustic instrumentation.

Since their humble early days in a dirt floored cabin, the Awakeneers have toured Canada by van and sailboat, as well as the US and Europe. They have performed main-stage concerts at music festivals and conferences, drawn audiences to the forest for Earth Day concerts, been part of almost every Island Folk Festival, and created the most magical garden party of the season when celebrating their album release in summer 2023.

The official mission of the band is to embody light, love, and truth — for the benefit of all beings. Their songwriting shines a light on life's big questions, celebrating the goodness of humanity and the
miracle of Life on Earth.
