Event Description
This workshop will be led by Shion Skye Carter, a 2022/23 Chrystal Dance Prize recipient and creator of Residuals, which Dance Victoria will be co-presenting with Intrepid Theatre’s OUTstages Festival on February 8th and 9th 2024 at Metro Studio Theatre.
Shion's Movement Calligraphy Workshop brings together the traditional art form of Japanese calligraphy with improvised dance, where participants embody the brushstrokes of a calligraphy piece they create. Derived from Shion’s own choreographic practice integrating calligraphy, this open-level workshop provides a fun, welcoming learning experience that generates community connection, taking intentional time to connect the mind and body.
Please wear clothes that you feel comfortable moving in; socks and masks/face coverings are optional. Chairs and movement modification options will be provided for all activities in the workshop.
