Join award-winning screenwriter, editor, filmmaker, film professor and graphic designer Adonay Guerrero Cortes for this introduction to writing for stage and screen. Together you will play with genre, explore, and experiment to investigate different ways of approaching “the one criterion that still holds true… to tell your story well, whatever that may entail.”
Adonay Guerrero Cortés is a screenwriter, filmmaker, and graphic designer born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and currently based in Kingston, Ontario. Guerrero holds a Master’s degree in Film Production from York University where he developed his thesis project Hidden Gods. During his time at York University, he was awarded a Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarships Program Master’s Scholarship given by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
Some of his works have been screened in film festivals such as the San Diego Comic-Con International Independent and Film Festival Edmonton International Film Festival (The Son of Santo), ImagineNATIVE Film Festival, Maoriland Film Festival in New Zealand (The Last Deaths of Joe); and the Diaspora International Film Festival (I Live Here: Windows).
Besides fiction films, he has worked as an editor on documentaries and TV Series. His most recent works include Women Building Peace in Africa directed by renowned writer Colleen Wagner and the TV series Battle Scars, About the Canadian Military in times of peace and war.
Guerrero is currently teaching at Queen’s University a series of courses about media production and Latin American Cinema.
